How to Fold a Paper Airplane That Flies Far

Learn how to fold a classic dart-style paper airplane designed for speed and long-distance flight. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Create a center crease. Lay your paper flat in front of you vertically. Fold the paper in half by bringing the left side over to the right side, lining up the edges perfectly. Press down on the fold with your fingernail to make a sharp crease, then unfold it so you see a line down the middle.
  2. Fold the top corners. Take the top two corners and fold them inward toward the center crease. You should now have a triangle shape at the top of your paper.
  3. Fold the edges again. Take the new slanted outer edges you just created and fold them inward to meet the center crease once more. This makes your airplane look like a very thin, sharp triangle.
  4. Fold the body. Fold the entire plane in half along the original center crease so that all the flaps you just folded are tucked inside. You should now have a long, thin shape.
  5. Create the wings. Take one of the slanted top edges and fold it down to meet the straight bottom edge of the plane. Flip the plane over and repeat this on the other side. Ask a grown-up if you need help making sure the wings are even.
