How to Set Up Your First Kitchen Station

Learn how to organize your own cooking space with these simple steps for setting up a safe and efficient kitchen area.

  1. Pick your spot. Find a drawer or a low shelf that you can reach easily without standing on a chair. Make sure it is away from the stove and the sink so you have plenty of room to work.
  2. Clear it out. Empty the space completely. Wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth so you are starting with a fresh, clean surface.
  3. Group your tools. Sort your tools by how you use them. Put measuring spoons together, spatulas in another spot, and bowls in a stack. Use dividers or small bins to keep them from sliding around.
  4. Label your zones. Use masking tape and a marker to label where each group of tools belongs. This helps you remember where things go after you wash them.
