Learn the simple techniques to measure dry and wet ingredients accurately for perfect baking results every time. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Measure dry ingredients using the scoop-and-level method. Gently scoop your dry ingredient into the measuring cup until it is overflowing. Do not pack it down. Use the flat edge of a knife or a spatula to sweep across the top of the cup, pushing the extra ingredient back into the bag or container so the top is perfectly flat.
  2. Measure liquid ingredients at eye level. Place your liquid measuring cup on a flat, steady surface like a counter. Pour your liquid slowly until it reaches the correct line. Bend down so your eyes are level with the measurement line to make sure the liquid touches the mark exactly.
