How to Set Up a Family Art Station

Create a dedicated space in your home where you can access art supplies and start your next creative project whenever inspiration strikes.

  1. Pick your spot. Find a corner or a section of a table that isn't used for eating. Make sure it is somewhere you can easily clean up if a little paint or glue spills.
  2. Sort your supplies. Group your items by type. Put all your pencils in one jar, markers in another, and keep your paper stacked neatly. Use the labels to mark each container so you know exactly where everything goes.
  3. Set up your workspace. Lay down your protective mat on the table or floor. Organize your most-used items, like paper and drawing tools, within arm's reach so you can start creating as soon as you sit down.
  4. Create a cleanup plan. Talk to a grown-up about where to store finished projects and how to handle wet paint. Having a 'drying spot' is a great way to keep your station clear for the next project.
