How to Create a Nature Collection Display

Learn how to gather, identify, and display natural treasures like leaves, stones, and seed pods in your own home museum.

1. Go on a treasure hunt. Take a walk in your yard or a nearby park. Look for items that have already fallen to the ground, like colorful leaves, smooth stones, or interesting seed pods. Use your magnifying glass to look closely at the textures and colors before you pick them up.
2. Sort your finds. Once you are home, lay your items out on a table. Group them by what they are, like grouping all the stones together or all the leaves together. You can place these groups into the sections of an egg carton to keep them organized.
3. Create your display. Arrange your sorted items inside your box or tray. If you want to keep them in place, use a tiny bit of glue or tape. Ask a grown-up to help you if you are using a hot glue gun or strong adhesive.
4. Label your collection. Write the name of each item on a small piece of paper. You can also write down where you found it and the date. Place these labels next to your items so everyone knows what is in your museum.
