Learn simple, friendly ways to introduce yourself and start a conversation with someone you haven't met before. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.
- Look for an opening. Find someone who looks like they are also available to talk, such as someone sitting on a bench or standing near you during an activity. Look for a friendly face and make eye contact for a quick second.
- Start with a simple greeting. Walk over and say a clear 'Hi' or 'Hello.' You can add your name to help them know who you are, like 'Hi, I'm [Your Name].'
- Ask an easy question. Ask about something you both have in common. If you are at school, you could ask, 'What is your favorite subject?' or if you are at the park, 'Do you come here often?'
- Listen to their answer. Listen carefully to what they say. When they finish, you can share your own answer or ask a follow-up question, like 'Oh, that's cool! Why do you like that?'
