How to Organize Your Homework Space
Create a focused, clutter-free zone to make finishing your schoolwork faster and easier. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.
- Clear the deck. Remove everything currently on your desk. Wipe the surface clean so you have a fresh start. This helps you see exactly how much space you have to work with.
- Group your supplies. Sort your items into three piles: things you use every day (like pencils and your planner), things you use sometimes (like rulers or glue), and things you rarely use. Keep the daily items within easy reach.
- Assign a home for everything. Put your daily items in a cup or bin on your desk. Place the 'sometimes' items in a drawer or a box nearby. If you have labels, use them to mark where things go so you never have to wonder where your scissors are.
- Check your lighting and seating. Ask a grown-up to help you position your desk lamp so it lights up your paper without creating a glare. Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet can rest flat on the floor.
