How to Organize Your Desk for School
A simple, step-by-step guide to help you clear the clutter and create a workspace that makes doing homework easier.
- Clear everything off. Take every single item off your desk. Put everything in a pile on the floor so you have a completely empty surface to clean.
- Clean the surface. Use your damp cloth to wipe down the desktop. If there are sticky spots or pencil marks, ask a grown-up for a safe cleaner to help remove them.
- Sort your supplies. Look at your pile and sort items into three groups: things you use every day (like pencils), things you use sometimes (like rulers), and things that are broken or trash.
- Organize your zones. Place your everyday items in reach of your dominant hand. Put your paper tray in a corner where it won't get in the way of your notebooks.
- Label your bins. Use sticky notes or labels to mark where your supplies go. This helps you remember where to put things back when you are finished.
