How to Decorate Your Room on a Budget

Learn how to refresh your bedroom style using simple materials you already have at home. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Plan your theme. Look around your room and decide what you want to change. You might want to create a photo wall, organize your desk, or make a colorful banner. Sketch your ideas on a piece of paper first to see how they look.
  2. Make paper garlands. Cut your construction paper into triangles or circles. Use your tape to attach them to a long piece of string. Hang your finished garland across a wall or bookshelf to add a pop of color.
  3. Upcycle storage. Take your clean jars or boxes and decorate the outside with markers, stickers, or paper cutouts. These make great homes for your pencils, trinkets, or art supplies, keeping your room tidy and stylish.
  4. Display your art. Choose your favorite drawings or photos and use tape to arrange them in a pattern on your wall. Try a grid shape or a heart shape for a fun look. Always ask a grown-up to check that the tape is safe for your wall paint.
