How to Make Dancing Raisins
Learn how to use kitchen ingredients to make raisins dance in a glass using the power of carbonation. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.
- Prepare your space. Place your clear glass or jar on a tray. This makes cleanup easy if the soda fizzes over the top of the glass.
- Add the soda. Ask a grown-up to help you pour the carbonated soda into the glass until it is about three-quarters full. Watch the bubbles rise to the top.
- Drop in the raisins. Drop 5 to 10 raisins into the soda one by one. Watch closely as they sink to the bottom and then start to move.
- Observe the dance. Stay still and watch for a few minutes. You will see the raisins float to the top, lose their bubbles, and sink back down to start the dance all over again.
