How to Create a Secret Reading Nook

Learn how to transform a corner of your room into a cozy, secret reading hideaway using basic household items. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

1. Choose your location. Find a quiet corner in your room. Make sure you have enough space to place four chairs in a square or to fit under a sturdy dining table.
2. Set the foundation. Lay down your soft rug or a thick blanket on the floor. This will be the base of your nook, so make sure it feels comfortable to sit on for a long time.
3. Construct the frame. Arrange your chairs facing outward, or use a table as your roof. Drape your sheets over the top, securing the edges with clothespins or by placing heavy books on top of the fabric where it meets the chair seats.
4. Add the comforts. Bring in your pillows and your favorite pile of books. Place your flashlight inside so you have a light source for reading once you crawl in.
