How to Plan an Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Learn how to design your own exciting indoor scavenger hunt with simple clues and hidden treasures. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

1. Decide on your goal. Choose where you want the hunt to end. This is where you will hide the 'treasure' or the final prize. Make sure it is somewhere easy to find once the last clue is solved.
2. Write your clues. Work backward from the treasure. Write a clue that leads to the hiding spot, then a clue that leads to that clue, and so on. Keep the clues simple, like 'I have four legs but cannot walk' for a chair.
3. Test your path. Walk through your hunt to make sure the clues make sense. Ask a grown-up to read them to see if they are too hard or too easy.
4. Hide and go hunt. Place your clues in their spots, starting with the one you give to the players. Once everything is set, invite your players to start the game.
