How to Make Slime That Actually Works

A step-by-step guide to creating stretchy, non-sticky slime using simple household ingredients. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Mix the glue and color. Pour 1/2 cup of white school glue into your bowl. If you want your slime to be a specific color, add one or two drops of food coloring now and stir until the color is even.
  2. Add the activator. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Once it is fully mixed, slowly add 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution while stirring constantly. You will notice the glue starting to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  3. Knead the slime. Once the mixture becomes too hard to stir with a spoon, use your hands to pick it up. Knead it by stretching and folding it over itself for about 3 to 5 minutes. It will start out sticky, but keep going—it will become smoother as you work with it.
