How to Write Your Own Mad Libs
Learn how to create your own hilarious fill-in-the-blank word games to play with your friends and family. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.
- Write a short story. Write a funny story that is about 5 to 10 sentences long. Keep the plot simple, like a trip to the moon or a day at school, so it is easy to read later.
- Pick your target words. Go through your story and underline 5 to 10 interesting words like nouns (person, place, or thing), verbs (action words), or adjectives (describing words).
- Create your list. On a separate piece of paper, write a list of the parts of speech for the words you underlined. For example, if you underlined 'blue', write 'Adjective' on your list.
- Make your master sheet. Rewrite your story on a new page, but leave a blank line where your underlined words were. Write the part of speech (like 'Noun' or 'Verb') inside the blank space so the reader knows what to write there.
