How to Build a Cardboard Castle

Transform ordinary cardboard boxes into a grand fortress with these simple building steps. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Prepare your boxes. Clear a space on the floor. If you have one large box, that will be your main castle hall. Use smaller boxes to create towers on the sides.
  2. Cut the battlements. Ask a grown-up to help you cut a 'crenellated' pattern (like a row of teeth) along the top edges of your boxes to give them that classic castle look.
  3. Connect the walls. Use your tape to join the boxes together. Make sure the tape is pressed down firmly so your castle doesn't wobble.
  4. Add the details. Draw a drawbridge on the front of your main box. Use your construction paper to make flags and tape them to the tops of your towers.
