How to Organize Your Art Supplies

A simple step-by-step guide to help you sort your markers, paper, and craft tools so you can find exactly what you need for your next masterpiece.

1. Gather everything in one place. Clear off a large table or floor space. Bring every single art supply you own to this spot so you can see exactly how much you have.
2. Sort into groups. Put similar items together in piles. For example, make a pile for markers, one for colored pencils, one for paints, and one for paper. If you find dried-out markers or broken crayons, ask a grown-up if it is time to recycle them.
3. Choose your containers. Place your items into your boxes or jars. Use smaller containers for tiny things like beads or erasers, and larger boxes for stacks of paper. Ask a grown-up to help you figure out which shelves or drawers are best for your bins.
4. Label your bins. Use masking tape and a marker to write the name of what is inside each bin. If you are not sure what to call a pile, you can even draw a picture on the label to help you remember.
