How to Plan Your Art Projects

1. Brainstorm your big idea. Grab your notebook and write down or draw a quick sketch of what you want to make. Don't worry about making it perfect; this is just to get your ideas out of your head and onto the paper.
2. Make a materials list. Look at your sketch and list everything you will need to finish the project. Do you need glue? Construction paper? Paint? Check your supplies to make sure you have everything ready before you start.
3. Break it into small parts. Big projects can feel overwhelming. Write down the first, second, and third things you need to do to complete your art. For example, if you are drawing a scene, step one might be 'draw the background,' and step two might be 'add the characters.'
4. Set a workspace. Find a clean table or desk. Ask a grown-up if you need to put down newspaper or a plastic mat to keep the area clean. Having a dedicated space helps you stay focused.
