How to Draw Simple Flowers

A step-by-step guide for kids to learn how to draw beautiful, simple flowers using basic shapes. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Draw the center. Start by drawing a small circle in the middle of your paper. This will be the center of your flower.
  2. Add the petals. Draw rounded 'U' shapes all around the circle, connecting them to the center piece. Keep them close together so your flower looks full.
  3. Draw the stem. Draw a long, straight or slightly curvy line starting from the bottom of your flower and going down to the bottom of your paper.
  4. Add leaves. Draw two curved lines meeting at a point on the sides of your stem to make leaves. You can add one or two leaves on each side.
  5. Add your colors. Use your favorite colors to fill in the petals, center, and leaves. Press lightly for light colors and harder for bright, bold colors.
