How to Tie Your Shoes the Fast Way
Learn the quick bunny ears method to tie shoes faster and teach kids an easier way to master this essential life skill.
- Set Up Your Laces. Start with your shoe on your foot or in front of you. Make sure both lace ends are roughly the same length. If one side is much longer than the other, adjust by pulling more lace through the eyelets. Cross the right lace over the left lace, then pull the right lace under and through to make your first knot. Pull both ends to tighten this base knot snugly against your foot.
- Make Two Bunny Ears. Here's where this method gets easier than traditional tying. Take the right lace and make a small loop - this is your first bunny ear. Pinch it between your thumb and pointer finger, leaving about an inch of loop showing. Do the exact same thing with the left lace, making a second bunny ear loop. You should now be holding two loops, one in each hand.
- Cross and Loop the Bunny Ears. Cross the right bunny ear over the left bunny ear, just like you did with the laces in step one. Now here's the key move: push the top bunny ear down and through the hole between the two loops. You're essentially making a knot with the two loops instead of loose lace ends.
- Pull Tight and Adjust. Gently pull both bunny ear loops away from each other to tighten your bow. The loops should be roughly the same size, and the knot should sit flat against your shoe. If the bow feels loose, pull the loops a bit more. If it's too tight, loosen by gently pulling on the loose ends hanging from each loop.
