How to Organize Your Study Space

A simple, step-by-step guide to help you create a clean and focused area for your homework and creative projects. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Clear everything off. Take every single item off your desk and put it on the floor. Wipe the surface clean with your damp cloth so you have a fresh start.
  2. Sort your supplies. Group your items into three piles: things you use every day (like pencils and your laptop), things you use sometimes (like rulers or glue), and things that don't belong on your desk at all.
  3. Give everything a home. Place your everyday items within easy reach. Put your 'sometimes' items in a box or a drawer. Ask a grown-up if you are unsure where to put items that don't belong in your workspace.
  4. Keep it clear. Only keep the project you are currently working on in front of you. This helps your eyes and brain stay on the right task.
