How to Be a Grocery Shopping Pro

Learn how to help your family navigate the grocery store, find items, and stay organized while shopping. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Check the list. Before you leave the house, look at the list with your grown-up. Ask if there are any specific items you are in charge of finding, like the bananas or the cereal.
  2. Navigate the aisles. As you walk through the store, keep your eyes peeled for the items on your list. When you spot one, point it out to your grown-up. Ask a grown-up before picking up heavy or glass items.
  3. Check the quality. If you are picking out produce, look for items that are firm and don't have bruises. If you aren't sure if a fruit or vegetable is ready to eat, ask your grown-up for help.
  4. Cross it off. Once an item is safely in the cart, use your pen to cross it off the list. This helps you keep track of what is left to find.
