How to Make Delicious No-Bake Oatmeal Cookies

Learn how to mix, heat, and scoop these classic, chewy no-bake cookies without turning on the oven. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Prepare your space. Lay out a long sheet of wax paper or parchment paper on your kitchen counter. This is where you will place your cookies to cool.
  2. Mix the base. Ask a grown-up to help you place the saucepan on the stove. Add the sugar, milk, butter, and cocoa powder into the pan. Turn the heat to medium and stir until the butter is melted and the mixture starts to boil.
  3. Boil and time it. Once the mixture is boiling, let it bubble for exactly one minute while stirring constantly. Ask a grown-up to help you watch the clock closely.
  4. Add the final ingredients. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the peanut butter, vanilla, and oats until everything is well combined and the oats are fully coated.
  5. Scoop and cool. Use your large spoon to drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto your wax paper. Let them sit for about 20 minutes until they are firm and cool enough to eat.
