How to Build Your Own Chain Reaction Machine

Learn the basics of physics and engineering by building a fun, multi-step chain reaction machine using common household objects.

1. Plan your path. Find a flat space like a floor or a long table. Think about where you want your machine to start and where you want it to end. Sketch a quick map of how the objects will connect.
2. Set up the first trigger. Place your first object, like a marble or a domino, at the start. Make sure it has enough room to move or fall without hitting anything else too early.
3. Build the connectors. Use books to create ramps for your marbles and cardboard tubes to act as tunnels. Line up your dominoes so that when one falls, it hits the next one in the chain.
4. Test and adjust. Test your machine one section at a time. If the marble doesn't roll far enough, try making the ramp steeper by adding another book under the end.
5. The big finale. Set up a fun ending, like a toy car crashing into a stack of blocks or a bell ringing. Once everything is set, give the first piece a gentle nudge and watch it go!
