How to Create Your Own Stop-Motion Animation

Learn how to bring your toys and clay figures to life by creating a simple stop-motion movie using your tablet or phone.

1. Set your stage. Find a quiet spot where your movie won't be bumped. Tape your background paper to the wall and table so it curves behind your characters. Make sure your camera is perfectly still by propping it against a heavy book or using a tripod.
2. Take your first frames. Open your app and place your character in the scene. Take one photo. Move your character just a tiny bit—maybe only a quarter of an inch. Take another photo. Repeat this over and over.
3. Review and play. Once you have 20 or 30 photos, hit the play button in your app. You will see your character start to walk or jump across the screen! If it looks too fast or slow, you can adjust the frame rate settings.
