How to Make Your Own Stickers at Home

Learn simple methods to create custom stickers at home using everyday materials and basic supplies.

  1. Gather Your Materials. You'll need sticker paper (available at craft stores or online), scissors, markers or colored pencils, and access to a printer if you want to print designs. Alternative materials include clear packing tape, white paper, and glue sticks for a budget-friendly option. For younger children, consider using pre-cut shapes or stencils to make the process easier.
  2. Design Your Stickers. Start by drawing or printing your designs. Keep images simple and bold - small details don't work well on stickers. If drawing by hand, use bright colors and thick lines. If using a computer, create designs in a drawing program or use free online sticker templates. Leave some space around each design for cutting.
  3. Create Stickers with Sticker Paper. Print your designs directly onto sticker paper using a regular printer, or draw directly on the sticker paper with markers. Let any ink dry completely. Cut around each design carefully, leaving a small border if desired. Test the stickiness on a scrap surface before using on important items.
  4. Make DIY Stickers with Tape Method. If you don't have sticker paper, draw or print designs on regular white paper. Cut out your designs, then cover completely with clear packing tape, pressing out air bubbles. Trim the tape, leaving a small border around the image. Apply a thin layer of glue stick to the back for temporary sticking power.
  5. Try Contact Paper Stickers. Cut clear contact paper into desired shapes or trace templates on the backing. Remove the backing and let children place colored tissue paper, magazine cutouts, or drawings onto the sticky side. Cover with another piece of contact paper and cut into sticker shapes. These create colorful, translucent stickers perfect for windows.
