How to Create Your Own Comic Book
Learn how to turn your imagination into a professional-looking comic book with these simple storytelling and drawing steps.
- Plan your story. Before you start drawing, write down your story on a separate piece of paper. Decide who your main character is, where the story happens, and what big problem they need to solve.
- Create your panels. Fold your sheets of paper in half to make a booklet. Use your ruler to draw squares or rectangles on each page; these are called panels, and they hold your drawings. Leave space at the top or bottom of each panel for speech bubbles.
- Sketch and outline. Lightly sketch your scenes with a pencil first. Once you are happy with how they look, go over your lines with a black pen. This makes your drawings stand out like a real comic book.
- Add speech and color. Draw bubbles around your character's words. Use color to make your comic pop and bring your world to life. Finally, ask a grown-up to help you staple the pages together along the folded edge.
