How to Make Fruit Popsicles Without Added Sugar
Learn to make delicious frozen treats using only fresh fruit and natural sweetness.
- Prep your fruit. Wash fresh fruit and remove any stems, pits, or tough peels. If using strawberries, cut off the green tops. For mangoes or peaches, ask a grown-up to help remove the pit and peel. Frozen fruit works too - just let it thaw for 5-10 minutes so it's easier to blend.
- Blend into a smooth puree. Put your fruit in the blender with 2 tablespoons of water or juice. Ask a grown-up to help you blend until it's smooth and creamy. If it's too thick to pour, add more liquid one tablespoon at a time. Taste it - if you want it sweeter, add honey now.
- Pour into molds. Carefully pour or spoon your fruit mixture into popsicle molds, leaving about ¼ inch of space at the top (the mixture expands when it freezes). If you don't have molds, small paper cups work perfectly.
- Add the sticks. If your molds have built-in sticks, snap those on now. For paper cups, cover the top with foil and poke a popsicle stick through the center. The foil helps the stick stay straight while freezing.
- Freeze and wait. Put your popsicles in the freezer for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight for best results. The waiting is the hardest part, but it's worth it!
- Remove and enjoy. To get popsicles out of plastic molds, run warm water over the outside for 10-15 seconds, then gently pull. For paper cups, just peel the cup away. Enjoy your all-natural frozen treats!
