How to Clean Your Room in Under 15 Minutes
A quick and efficient step-by-step guide to help kids of all ages clean their rooms fast.
- Set Your Timer and Get Ready. Before you start, set a timer for 15 minutes and turn on some upbeat music to keep you motivated. Clear a path to your door so you can move around safely. If your room is extremely messy, don't worry about making it perfect – focus on making it significantly better.
- Start with the Big Stuff (Minutes 1-5). Begin by picking up all the large items scattered around your room. Put dirty clothes in the hamper or laundry basket. Hang up clean clothes that belong in the closet. Place books back on shelves or in a neat stack. Put toys, games, and electronics back where they belong. Don't worry about organizing perfectly – just get things off the floor and into their general homes.
- Make Your Bed (Minutes 6-8). Pull your sheets and blankets up to the top of the bed. Smooth them out with your hands – they don't need to look like a hotel bed, just neat and tidy. Arrange your pillows at the head of the bed. A made bed instantly makes any room look much cleaner and more organized.
- Clear Flat Surfaces (Minutes 9-12). Quickly clear off your dresser, desk, nightstand, and any other flat surfaces. Put items back where they belong or create small, neat piles if you don't have time to organize completely. Wipe down surfaces with a cloth or your hand to remove dust and crumbs. Stack papers and books neatly.
- Final Floor Check and Quick Touches (Minutes 13-15). Do a final sweep of your floor, picking up anything you missed. Push your desk chair under your desk. Straighten any rugs or mats. Close dresser drawers and closet doors. Take a quick look around – if you spot something obviously out of place that will take 10 seconds to fix, do it now.
