How to Make Slime That Actually Works

A step-by-step guide to creating stretchy, non-sticky slime using simple household ingredients. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Mix the glue and color. Pour 1/2 cup of white school glue into your mixing bowl. If you want colored slime, add 1-2 drops of food coloring now and stir until the color is even.
  2. Add the baking soda. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and add it to the glue. Stir it well until the mixture is smooth and no clumps remain.
  3. Activate the slime. Slowly add 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution to the mixture while stirring constantly. You will notice the slime start to pull away from the sides of the bowl immediately.
  4. Knead by hand. Once the mixture is too thick to stir, take it out of the bowl. Use your hands to stretch and fold the slime for about 2-3 minutes. It will become less sticky and more stretchy as you work with it.
